She held my hand for 10 seconds. Tops. But it had a significant impact on me.

Last month I went in for a surgical procedure (one of many lately). I’m used to the drill. Get wheeled into the room, slide off the gurney onto the bed, anesthetic hooked up to the line in my hand, oxygen mask over the face…lala land. But this was different. Just a little. As the sedation entered my left hand…burning…I looked over at my right hand and realized one of the nurses was holding it. I looked up at her and she smiled…and I blacked out.

It was a small act that, obviously, has stuck with me. I realized how it calmed me. I felt seen. I wasn’t just the next in line. I felt cared for. And now weeks later I wonder what small purposeful acts I practice that have equally transforming effects on other human beings.

Callings, when practiced, always transform others. Callings always, without fail, leave a mark on human beings or the creation. That’s why we are given our callings by God. I have no doubt that holding the hands of her patients was one of the prime expressions of a calling that was designed for her before she was born. It changed me. And I am grateful.

Sorry for the long break in these newsletters! I have reasons:

• Too many surgical procedures. I’m generally fine but working through some aftereffects. I know many of you can relate. By the way, did you know that 60% of Americans are dealing with some kind of chronic health issue?
• We’ve added some really cool, wonderful coaches to the Destinyworks Team. I can’t wait to introduce you to Tajuana, Heather, Micah and Olivia! Stay tuned…
• We’ve been working on a brand-new website, remade from the ground up. I love it! Debut coming soon…
• We’ve added a follow-up to the Calling Quilt™ and Destiny Workshop™ called the Well-Being Project™ that will enhance your ability to live with vitality as you operationalize your calling! Again, stay tuned…
• I’ve been working on my second book! My working title: “This Extraordinary Life: A Framework for Living with Purpose, Vitality, Worth, and Influence”. Hoping to publish this fall…

All that said…I’m back with the newsletters and blog posts. More to come! And as always,   my team and I stand ready to guide you to your purpose and show you the way to vitality as you transform your world…maybe one held hand at a time!
